Hello

I’m a Maltese ceramicist and I’ve been hooked on working with clay ever since I was 11. I had attended lessons by Anna Ciavola, a Maltese artist, and was immediately drawn to the versatile nature of clay.

Mainly self-taught, I’ve worked in studios in Edinburgh and East London. I love to try out different techniques and glazes, and my curiosity has led me to experiment with various firing methods including raku for my sculptures, and anagama for some vases.

A recent throwing course I attended at La Meridiana Ceramic School in Italy has enabled me to cultivate my technique on throwing larger forms.

I am currently based in Tallinn, working at a studio in Tondi where I produce tableware for restaurants and cafes, as well as home-ware items which are sold in a few stores. Please refer to my Projects page were you can find pictures and descriptions of recent collaborations with restaurants and food enthusiasts.

Working in different environments and immersing myself in different cultures and landscapes has helped me to develop my own style, confidence, and an enriched sense of aesthetics.

The majority of my work is wheel-thrown, although some sculpture-work creeps in from time to time, mostly in the form of wall-sculptures. My favoured material is stoneware – for which I mix my own high-fire glazes.

The pieces are varied and include one-off creations. I focus mostly on functional forms and draw inspiration from my surroundings and travels. Nature, with its forms and colours, has a strong influence on my work, both in structure, texture and glaze.

All functional forms are food and dishwasher safe. With most pieces I would advise hand-washing and infrequent oven use so as to minimise unnecessary stress.
